Brother John Tran has been serving as Section 30's Advisory Liaison since September 25, 2017. Commitment to this position is reaffirmed annually and on a volunteer basis at every Section 30 Conference. The duties of the Section 30 Advisory Liaison are defined as follows:

Coordinates a twice-annual meeting with advisors in Section 30 - may be in-person or a conference call. Facilitate discussions on advisory needs, support, and resources. Keeps advisors connected and informed on APO news on the local and national level. Works with chapters to evaluate their advisor/chapter utility, working with students to evaluate what makes successful advisor/student partnerships, and what does not - helping develop improvement plans as needed.

What chapter are you from, and when did you pledge? Gamma Theta, at the University of Colorado Boulder, pledged in Spring 2016.

Did you hold any leadership roles in your chapter as a student? I’ve held multiple leadership positions including: pledge fundraising chair, co-MBU chair, and co-Pledgemaster. I was also part of the planning committee for Gamma Theta’s 75th Anniversary.

What is (or was) your major? Are you pursuing further education, or are you all done? I majored in Ethnic Studies, hoping to return to graduate school to pursue a Masters in Higher Education with a focus in student affairs.

What is your job? I am currently working at two hospitals, UCHealth and Children’s Hospital, as a pharmacy technician and ED Medical Scribe.

What are your hobbies? My hobbies include: admiring corgis from afar, playing my ukulele and singing, traveling, reading a good book, learning more about social justice, and eating fried chicken as a comfort food.

Why did the Section 30 Advisory Liaison opportunity appeal to you? As our chapters in Section 30 continue to grow, I strongly believe that there needs to be a great presence from our advisors and become a resource for our chapter. Also, as the advisory chair, my goal is to facilitate discussion between the advisors from the chapters in hopes to get feedback from one another, bounce ideas on how to help our chapters bond, and how I as the advisory chair can use my own resources to help the needs of our advisors so that they can help their respective chapters be successful. My motivation from this is from our very own GT advisor, Chris Meschuk, who was always with us and supported everything that we do since day 1.
