Brother Ruth Hong Brininger has been serving as Section 30's PR Chair since her appointment on November 2, 2016. Commitment to this position is reaffirmed annually and on a volunteer basis at every Section 30 Conference. The duties of the Section 30 PR Chair are defined as follows:

Helps to get APO in the local news and assists chapters with making contact with the media.

What chapter are you from, and when did you pledge? I'm from Alpha Alpha chapter--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I pledged in fall 2001 as a Dalai Lama.

Did you hold any leadership roles in your chapter as a student? No, but this question makes me think that I should have! My husband, Craig, who I met in APO was Barn Dance Chair one year, if that counts.

What is (or was) your major? Are you pursuing further education, or are you all done? I was a BFA in Arts/Crafts (Metals) and had a minor in Information Technology at UIUC. I received my MS in Instructional Technology Systems from DePaul. I might be done? I wouldn't rule out a PhD or a law degree.

What is your job? I am currently a SAHM to two young kiddos. I previously worked in communications for over 11 years and still do contract work from time to time.

What are your hobbies? My hobbies are currently equal to null. I spend most of my time with my two young children. I love taking them to the parks and any family-friendly event. When I'm not sleep deprived, I enjoy the arts and food--my second love.

Why did the Section PR Chair opportunity appeal to you? Amy Johnson, a fellow brother, tagged me in a Facebook post about the vacancy, but I've always wanted to become active in APO after becoming an alumni. I always enjoyed volunteering. The PR chair seemed to be a great fit with my background in communications and education. My husband and I recently moved to Colorado, so getting to know others that believe in leadership, friendship and service is very exciting to me.

Anything else you want to share with your brothers? Did you know that during my pledge season, I only went to one pledge meeting. All of my undergrad classes took place in the evenings so I never had an opportunity to attend a meeting until I had finished a project early and was able to attend one meeting. Of course, no one knew who I was accept for my friends who had pledged also, those I saw during the service activities and the pledge staff. I finished all of my service hours which I was proud of!
