Virtual Documentary Screening: Free Cece! hosted by SHARPP

Date: Oct 6, 2020 at 7:30pm to 9:30pm
From SHARPP: "CeCe McDonald, a Black trans woman, was jailed in a men’s prison for 19 months after defending herself against men who assaulted and harassed her and her friends one night in 2011. One of the men who was harassing them -- who had sliced CeCe’s face with a beer bottle -- was killed. Originally facing up to 40 years with charges of second-degree murder, CeCe took a plea deal and was sentenced to 41 months. Free CeCe, co-produced by Laverne Cox, is an exploration of how CeCe and other trans people of color across the country are treated disproportionately in the justice system, and what they're doing to fight back. Tune in for a virtual screening followed by a discussion on themes presented in the film. This event is co-sponsored by The Beauregard Center, Community Equity & Diversity Office, Women's & Gender Studies Department, Alliance, MOSAICO, Japanese Cultural Club." **Zoom link for event: https://unh.zoom.us/j/95595589252?pwd=NUVrU1h0akY2OXFIZllIUHByM0thUT09 Password is DOCU** ** You have 48 hours prior to this event to remove your name from the list.
