Event Description: This year’s President’s Climate speaker, Dr. Sarah Jaquette Ray, is a professor of Environmental Studies at Humboldt State University located in Arcata, California. She has taught and leads research in a variety of fields, including environmental justice and environmental humanities. Recently she has focused her research on climate anxiety and the development of personal resilience to the Climate Crisis. In her new book, A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet, she addresses the heightened climate anxiety felt by many people in the late millennial and Gen-Z generations due to the seemingly insurmountable challenges of working towards solutions to climate change. Ray provides a toolkit, drawing from various disciplines, including psychology, sociology, and mindfulness, to better help us identify and respond to challenging emotions creatively, cultivate resilience, and take action for environmental and climate justice.
