Register to be a possible bone marrow donor!

Date: Apr 12, 2010 at 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Did you know that... if you are of Caucasian descent, the likelihood of you finding a bone marrow match is 80%? However, if you are of a minority descent (all minorities as a group), your likelihood of finding a bone marrow match is less than 30%? Since April is Asian American Awareness month, a small organization I am a part of, Pre-med Asian Pacific American Medical Students Assocation (Pre-med APAMSA.. yes it is a mouth-full), is trying to help register potential bone marrow donors! Come anytime between 11am-2pm and take 15-20 minutes of your time to get registered, gain an hour of APO service credit, and learn more about the need for minority registered donors. This is a completely safe and pain free procedure.. we just need you to swab your cheeks with cotton swabs :) ALSO, you could gain an additional service hour by taking an hour of your time to pass out flyers or help register others at the table in the same room! I feel that Sigma Sigma, consisting of many minorities especially during this Asian American Awareness month, could really help address this social issue if even half of us just gave 15-20 minutes of our time to register. Thank you for reading this! If you sign up here, please add if you are signing up just to get registered (15-20 minutes) or if you're also willing to volunteer an hour of your time to help pass out flyers or help register others and what time you can help. Thank you so much! :)
