Trash Pickup at Butler Lake

Date: Nov 16, 2024 at 9:00am to 12:00pm
Come on out and help pick up some trash at a little known St. Louis County Park. Butler Lake usually gets its trash from the flooding of the Meramec, the wonderful people who throw trash out their window as they drive by and our lovely park visitors who just see it as a place to toss stuff when they're done. Ugh. I will be providing trash bags and County will be doing the trash pickup when we are done. I have also worked with the Winter Brothers so that we can use their entrance driveway as extra parking (there is VERY limited parking at the park itself) and they have also offered the assistance of heavy equipment if we find anything big. And SLAGA will be providing a CITO coin as an attendance prize. Bring your gloves and trash picker-uppers to help gather the array of trash I saw around the area. If anyone wants to bring a small watercraft, there is a trail to the lake edge, but I will not be providing any canoes or other floatation devices. Be aware that there are no facilities at this park - it is an undeveloped area. Quick parking note - as I mentioned, parking at the park itself is very limited - only about 6-8 spots. Just down the road at the second parking coordinates is the Winter Brothers quarry. We can park on their entrance road, but please make sure to park on the side so that any trucks working that day can easily get through. Thanks! See you there! We will be meeting at the provincial house at 9 AM and leaving by 9:30 AM. The event starts at 10 AM and goes until 12 PM. It should be a great time helping out our local parks department!
