"Carolina Pediatric Attention Love and Support, or CPALS, is a 501c3 non-profit composed of UNC students (the CPALS!) who are dedicated to supporting current/previous UNC-Hospitals Hematology-Oncology patients, their families, and healthcare workers. Our mission is to create trusting, supportive relationships with pediatric patients and their families." They work throughout the year to raise funds for the CPALS Scholarship Program. Through this program, they provide financial assistance for college expenses to their pals, whose families have had to endure the unexpected costs of treatment. In addition to this, they finance the CPALS Cares Grant. This grant enables immediate financial support to both the patients and their families through gift cards to various places such as restaurants and convenience stores. This year, CPALS is hosting the Golden Heroes 5K (named after the color of the childhood cancer awareness ribbon and for their pals) again in the hopes of raising both awareness and funds for our cause.
