Keertan Night - Sikh Student Association

Date: Nov 24, 2025 at 6:00pm to 8:06pm
The UNC Sikh Student Association is hosting the 4th annual Keertan Night on November 24th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We invite all students, staff, faculty, and members of the greater UNC community to our event. The event will be held in Greenlaw 101. Keertan is the musical performance of "shabad" or hymns from the Guru Granth Sahab, the holy book of the Sikh Faith. Participants are invited to pick a Shabad that they would like to sing. They are accompanied by students who can play the harmonium and the tabla. We request that those interested in singing a Shabad tell us in advance so that we can project the text in Gurmukhi, Punjabi, and English translation. Students will have the opportunity to engage with local members of the Sikh community after the Keertan. This event introduces students to the Literary, Artistic, and Creative Expression of the Sikh congregation of North Carolina and enhances Global Understanding by exploring the culture and belief systems of Punjab-speaking South Asian heritage students and members of the UNC community.
