Volunteer for Larry Itliong Day |
| Date: Oct 25, 2023 at 10:45am to 3:00pm | |
October is Filipino American History Month and October 25th is recognized as Larry Itliong Day, honoring Itliong's leadership in the fight for the American farm labor movement. Join the Asian Pacific Islander Student Resource Center and Kalahi in the U-SU Plaza to celebrate our Filipino-American community, where there will be activities and performances!
Examples of volunteer roles and duties consist of (but are not limited to):
Before Program: Blowing up balloons / Attaching them to tables with ribbon, Helping set up the Larry Itliong Banner on stage, Assisting tables with their set-up (Dr. Sabado-Liwag, Dr. Sales, Eliseo Silva, CCC, Kalahi, etc.), Grabbing materials and supplies to support the program
During Program: Running the APISRC Check-in Table, Helping Kalahi with activities, Attending the photobooth and addressing technical difficulties, Directing those who pre-ordered Baybayin scripts to where they can pick them up, Street-teaming Larry Itliong postcards, When Kalahi performs traditional Filipino dances in the plaza, directing students to go around and making sure they do not walk through, Providing water/snacks/hospitality to performers
Post Program: Taking down the decorations (balloons, posters, etc.), Bringing supplies from the plaza back to Cross Cultural Centers, Assisting tables with their take-down
Because volunteering runs for four hours total and the event is outdoors, our staff and I will ensure that you take a 15-20-minute break to eat a snack, enjoy the event, and have time to rest. If any issues arise for you personally or regarding the event, please talk to Kenneth or any other staff so we can support you.
Grab a slip from Tammy so APISRC can sign your hours off for you.
