Pieter Swart and his wife, Jenn were brothers of Iota Rho. He was president of the Fall 1989 pledge class which brought Alpha Phi Omega actively back to the FSU campus. He later served as VP Service and another term as President as well as being awarded the Chapter DSK. Jenn, pledged in Fall 1991 and served as VP Service of her pledge class and later as chapter VP membership. I am telling you about their A-Phi-O resume, not in boast, but to express their deep passion for providing service to the community during their collegiate years and beyond. On September 21, 2014, their son Pieter IV, passed away after a two and a half year battle with Neuroblastoma an aggressive pediatric cancer. Jenn and Pieter have formed two non-profits Pieter's Pals and Beat Kids Cancer. The goal of Beat Kids Cancer is to provide funding for pediatric cancer research. Pieter's Pals strives to provide assistance to children and families during their battle with cancer. Pieter's Pals is organizing a Lego Drive to honor what would have been Pieter's sixth birthday. This past Sunday, February 22nd would have been Pieter's 6th birthday. As a chapter we will be hosting our own Lego Set drive in Pieter's honor! If you bring in one new Lego set you will earn 1 regular service credit capped at 2. You must bring them to me this Sunday, March 1st. I will be at both pledge and brotherhood chapter collecting. I will also meet you any time this week if you would like to donate sooner!
