Keep Calm and Carillon: Learn about the Bells at Rockefeller!

Date: May 15, 2019 at 11:30am to 12:30pm
Do you ever hear strange melodies, movie themes, or anime songs coming from the bell tower? Curious about what the bells look like and how they are played? Come learn about one of UChicago's coolest musical instruments: the carillon! I have been playing the carillon for the past 3 years, fallen in love with it, and am excited to share the experience with fellow APO brothers. If you're a 4th year, going up Rockefeller Tower is a must-do bucket list item before graduation! This will take place during one of the daily carillon tower tours that I lead, which meet at 11:30 am just inside the front entrance of Rockefeller Chapel. It will involve fun carillon facts, majestic architecture, the best view of campus you can get, and (potentially, depending on numbers) getting up close and personal with some of the biggest bells. If you're really excited to do the tower tour but can't make this time, hmu and I can take you up some other day! Note: The tour requires climbing 271 steps, some of which get quite narrow. We will go slowly and take breaks. Lmk if you have other accessibility questions!
