This year, CUSA will be presenting a stage play based on the ancient Chinese legend, The Butterfly Lovers (梁山伯与祝英台), intertwined with one of modern Chinese TV’s most popular story elements—time travel. Known as China’s Romeo and Juliet, The Butterfly Lovers tells the story of a young woman, Ying, who masquerades as a man in order to attend a prestigious boarding school in ancient China. While there, she meets Shan, a fellow student who she immediately befriends, and eventually falls in love with. Yet their story is not without complications. With Ying, not only hiding her gender, but also concealing another huge, game-changing secret, how will Ying and Shan’s ill-fated love pan out?
