Join Chicago Cares in mobilizing volunteers from across the city to support the important work our community partners are leading! For Chicagoans who care, building connections with neighbors, deepening our understanding of neighborhood goals and challenges, and being engaged civic servants, are first steps towards deeper involvement in Chicago. Civic participation is essential for a healthy, inclusive democracy, and a key ingredient for a more vibrant and equitable Chicago. Through direct engagement and education, volunteers will use the text banking platform to share information with volunteers about upcoming projects that need additional support. At Chicago Cares, we believe volunteering should engage in civic action geared towards a more vibrant and equitable Chicago while preparing volunteers to lead with organizations/causes they care about. Our text banking program is intentionally designed to help volunteers broaden their civic action leading to change systems for greater equity. We believe that to move from individual to collective service we must better understand the structural and systemic causes of issues and encourages our further action. Text banking embodies this core value by having volunteers learn important information about the amazing work our community partners are doing and gives them an opportunity to mobilize volunteers to support said work. What to Expect: This volunteer engagement will include an orientation instructing volunteers how to use the text banking platform, ThruText. Texts will be sent from phone numbers through the platform, not from volunteers’ personal phone numbers. A computer is required to participate in this project. No experience necessary.
