For Chicagoans who care, building connections with neighbors, deepening our understanding of neighborhood goals and challenges, and being engaged civic servants, are first steps towards deeper involvement in Chicago. Civic participation is essential for a healthy, inclusive democracy, and a key ingredient for a more vibrant and equitable Chicago. Through direct engagement and education, volunteers will share information, using our text banking platform, with Chicagoans about the upcoming election. At Chicago Cares, we believe volunteering should engage in civic action geared towards a more vibrant and equitable Chicago while preparing volunteers to lead with organizations/causes they care about. Our Text Banking with Chicago Votes program is intentionally designed to help volunteers broaden their civic action leading to change systems for greater equity. We believe that to move from individual to collective service we must better understand the structural and systemic causes of issues and encourage further action. Text Banking with Chicago Votes embodies this core value by having volunteers learn important information about the upcoming election while having them support civic action efforts.
