Alpha Phi Omega has designated the first week of November as National Service Week (NSW), in order to unify chapters with a national theme, inspire expansion of their service programs and increase the impact they have on the communities they serve. Be it resolved that the National Service Week program of emphasis for 2019-2020 shall be “Diabetes Awareness” with specific focus on “Education Awareness on Campus” in 2019. Many symptoms accompany diabetes, and not all of them are physical. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failures, amputations, heart failures and strokes; additionally, many emotional and financial burdens are placed upon people with diabetes and their families. In the last 10 years, the number of Americans living with diabetes has grown to more than 30 million, which is roughly a 50 percent increase, according to the American Diabetes Association. Look out for events this week with the label NSW to get involved, and keep your eyes peeled on Social Media/in the Facebook group to spread awareness!
