Mind Matters: Supporting Your Loved One With PTSD in Civilian Life

Date: Nov 11, 2024 at 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Hi Bros! Happy Veteran's Week! For those who have served in the military, it can be challenging to return to civilian life. In addition to facing big life changes like finding a new career and building a new routine, adapting to civilian life often requires a shift in mindset. Veterans may need support to adapt their military mindset and skills to succeed in their civilian life, including navigating daily life with family and friends. In addition, veterans are at a higher risk of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, especially those who are deployed and experience combat, life-threatening missions, or training accidents. One in three women who serve in the military experience sexual assault or harassment, and people of color may also experience racism and discrimination during their service and after. No matter its cause, PTSD further complicates the process of re-adapting to civilian life, creating barriers and challenges for veterans. Families and friends can also struggle to support their loved ones who are experiencing PTSD symptoms.
