SOPi Installs & Nationals Gift-Making

Date: Aug 23, 2018 at 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Alpha Phi Omega - Gamma Beta ______________________________________________ Chairing: Brothers must select “I volunteer to coordinate.” to chair. First come first serve. ______________________________________________ Meeting Time & Location: MLK 826 @ 4:45pm ______________________________________________ Maximum Number of Brothers: 6 ______________________________________________ Event Description: Sigma Omicron Pi, Gamma Chapter, will be hosting the installation ceremony of their Spring 2018 Alpha Tau Class on Saturday, 8/25. They have invited us to celebrate with them as they install five new members to their sisterhood. As both a thank you and congratulations to them, we will be making medals as gifts for these new sisters. Additional medals will be created to be given out at the APO National Conference in December as a way to display our chapter pride. "Sigma Omicron Pi offers women a supportive network of sisters to achieve academic and social growth. This sisterhood is based on four objectives: Unity, Friendship, Leadership, and Service. The tradition of lifelong friendship has prevailed for over 8 decades. Sigma Omicron Pi was established in 1930 at San Francisco State University, making the organization the first and oldest Asian American National sorority in the United States. The Gamma Chapter of Sigma Omicron Pi at San José State University was founded on June 6, 1992 by 8 Asian American women. While priding themselves on being the first Asian American interest sorority on the San José State University campus, the sisters continue to uphold the strong traditions of their sisterhood, bounded by their objectives." (http://www.sjsu.edu/getinvolved/greek-life/chapters-councils/usfc/index.html) We will be making DIY Medals made out of card stock and paint/markers: Forget-Me-Not/Diamond/Oak Tree/Golden Eagle on the front, APO GB (in Greek letters in gold & blue) on the back. Individuals will be assigned with which fraternity symbol to draw so there are not too many of the same symbol. Each medal will have a ribbon so that individuals can wear it around their neck. Afterwards, the medals will be laminated using self-adhesive laminating sheets to preserve their quality. The goal is to have about 60 medals (including the 5 for the SOPi Installs) made by the end of the service project. By performing this service, Brothers will be able to work on something that will show others who we are as both a fraternity and a chapter. These medals will strengthen our bonds with other organizations within our campus as well as with our brothers from other chapters. Brothers will be able to feel a sense of accomplishment for our chapter when these medals are gifted to these groups. This service aims to help boost chapter morale and pride. ______________________________________________ Dress Code: Letters/Pin ______________________________________________ Materials: All materials will be provided by the coordinator. ______________________________________________ Please fill out this evaluation form: http://bit.ly/apogb_evaluation_form ______________________________________________ Hosting Coordinator Contact: Angelique Guzman (510) 304-4568 ______________________________________________ Submitted By: Angelique Guzman
