Date: Aug 5, 2018 at 7:00am to 12:00am
This event will count as INDIVIDUAL HOURS Meeting Location: SF Tenderloin Childrens Center, 570 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 "Boys Camp is a traditional resident camp situated in the High Sierras for boys from 10 to 17 years old. The campers are placed in groups of 6 - 8 to participate in the camp programs to build friendships, learn cooperation and teamwork, as well as to share and learn from other campers in a fun and safe setting. Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, archery, riflery, crafts, music, and nature sessions. A campfire program promotes fellowship every evening. There is an overnight backpack hike to learn outdoor living skills and facilitate independence and personal responsibility. Community meetings help to share personal experiences with each other. Each camper is expected to assume some responsibilities for the smooth functioning of the camp community. As a Camp Leader, you are expected to help the campers in these activities but also to help guide them and teach them values. You will be spending every single waking minute with the campers, eating with them, sleeping in the same area as them, and watching out for them. " " Both George and Wilmer served as camp directors and leaders for the Chinatown YMCA in San Francisco since 1985. In the late 1990s, there was a shift in the method that the YMCA was offering camping scholarships to its members. That practice seemed to discriminate against those youth who mainly lived in the Chinatown and Tenderloin districts of San Francisco. In 2000, George and Wilmer decided to separate from the YMCA, and created a summer camp which would invite all youth, no matter the financial situation of the families applying. C.A.M.P. (Camp Alumni Membership Program) San Francisco is rooted in loving our neighbors and teaching skills in a manner befitting model young citizens. This is the best and only way we can fulfill our mission." Dress Code: Letters
