Event Description:
Martha’s Kitchen is a non-for profit, interfaith, mom-and-pop Hot Meal Program which has served tens of thousands of hungry men, women and children in the San Jose area. On a daily basis, we see the need of hungry families, veterans, senior citizens, the forgotten, the throw-aways of society, the runaway kids and the frightened immigrant; all these in one of the wealthiest areas of the world, Silicon Valley, where the cost of a small house is beyond the means of the average person. Afternoon shift involves serving hot meals, pouring beverages, washing dishes, garbage duty, clean-up, etc. ***(NOTE: Punctuality is a must. Volunteers are accepted on a “first come, first served†basis. However, those who have received confirmations get priority. Those arriving after 3:15 pm even with confirmation may be turned away).***
Dress Code: Letters/Pledge Pin: Wear close-toed, non-skid shoes such as sneakers, i.e., no flip-flops. Have hair cover, e.g., baseball cap, hair nets, etc. Wear conservative attire that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
