Date: Apr 19, 2019 at 9:00am to 1:00pm
UW is committed to reaching a waste diversion goal of 70% by 2020. On April 19, 2019, UW Recycling will be hosting the “UW Trash-In” event in Red Square. Students, faculty and staff are invited to join! The event is a fun and insightful trash sort aimed at exploring how much recyclable and compostable material is being thrown away on campus. Volunteers will receive a cover-up suit and gloves. **SIGN UP HERE** https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeewzCIo2hLYMYioB2btgqCAImcdPnrtt0-cFdzDPmW1fhCiQ/viewform VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTIONS General Volunteers: The heart and soul of the trash sort! General volunteers are the hard-working people we need to sort through materials and categorize into three options: landfill-bound garbage, recycling, and compost. If you don't feel confident in your ability to sort waste properly, don't worry - UW Recycling staff will be on-site to help you! Runners: Runners will help distribute collected items onto tables for general volunteer staff to sort and move bagged items aside once sorted. When free, you'll help your general volunteer peers sort items at the sorting table and make note of widely reoccurring products discovered during the sort. (Don't worry, no running required for this volunteer position!) Registration & Activity Team: Registration volunteers will assist in welcoming the public, recording volunteer names, directing volunteers on where to grab refreshments, required protective equipment, and showing them to a sorting station. Registration volunteers will also engage with the public through interactive fun Q&A games and activities.
