Desi Dhamaka 2017 is officially here! Desi Dhamaka is an annual, student-run, South Asian cultural showcase at the University of Washington. It has now grown into the largest display of South Asian performance arts in the Pacific Northwest. The mission of the show is to spread the awareness of South Asian culture by providing a platform for UW students to showcase their talent to the UW student body and the greater Northwest community. Every year, the show is filled with high energy dances, amazing musical performances, and hilarious stunts! This year will be no different as we bring you 7 of the best acts that Desi Dhamaka has ever seen on the night of April 1st. The following are this year's acts in no particular order: DangeRaas Dawgs Dub City Bhangra Giddha Kahaani Natya UW Unplugged UW Awaaz This year, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Will's Cure. Will's Cure is a foundation that focuses on raising money for research and promoting awareness for myotubular myopathy, an extremely deadly disease that prevents male infants from using their muscles when they are born, many of whom are not able to live after a few days. Through the efforts of Will's Cure and work done by universities and research centers, such as the University of Washington, potential treatments, such as gene therapy using the MTM1 gene, may present a cure, something that previously thought to be impossible. The show will once again be held at the prestigious Meany Hall, located in the heart of the UW campus. With first class sight lines and acoustics to complement the talent on the stage, this year promises to be the best yet! Doors open at 6pm, the show starts at 7pm. Tickets will be sold in advance on campus, online, and at the event. We will be tabling the first week of spring quarter either in Red Square or near the HUB.
