Does Major Equal Career? (UW Parent & Family Weekend - Career Town Hall Session) |
| Date: Apr 10, 2016 at 10:00am to 11:10am | |
Students are often conflicted between trying to choose a major based on "practicality” and exploring their academic passions, and can find themselves unfulfilled both during and after college. This workshop will examine how all majors at UW offer students learning outcomes and transferrable skills that prepare them for post-collegiate employment. We will talk about the benefits of finding an academic home (“a major”) that stems from organic interests, and the difficulties that arise from trying to get into a major that may not be a good fit. We will also help students think about designing a holistic college experience that combines academic rigor, on-campus involvement, internships, and off-campus experiences to become well-rounded with the skills and strengths to go for an array of career possibilities. Attend this interactive session and leave with enhanced perspectives about the major/career connection and a vision for career success that is tied to any UW area of study.
