The most good you can do: How effective altruism is changing ideas about living ethically.

Date: Apr 10, 2015 at 7:00pm to 8:00pm
An emerging international movement, effective altruism is causing an increasing number of individuals to turn their backs on traditional success in favor of doing the most they can to make the world better. In his new book, philosopher and thought-leader Peter Singer explains what effective altruism is, how it's practiced, and how its followers determine which causes to support. Profiling dozens of individuals making conscious, rational decisions to use what they have to do the most good possible, Singer shows how giving with a sense of responsibility can radically change both our world and our lives. Joining us for a discussion and signing, Singer will share more about the movement and how we can all be a part of it. Peter Singer is Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics, Princeton University, and Laureate Professor, School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, University of Melbourne. The most prominent ethicist of our time, he is the author of more than twenty books including Animal Liberation, Practical Ethics, and The Life You Can Save. He divides his time between New York City and Melbourne, Australia. ***Please write a one paragraph reflection about what you learned at the event and send it to yuenlingtsui@gmail.com within two weeks to receive leadership credit***
