Description: Volunteers will join staff from the Anacostia Watershed Society to plant native grasses and perennials in two new bioretention planters at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, a church in the Anacostia River Watershed. Bioretention planters treat and manage stormwater runoff, so by participating in this project, volunteers will help AWS to reduce stormwater and pollutants from going into the Anacostia River. Physical Requirements: This event will likely involve lifting and bending. Participants will be expected to wear closed-toed shoes for the duration of the event. If you think any of the physical requirements will be problematic, please let us know or consider joining another event. Registration is required. Please register at least 2 days prior to the event date you chose to volunteer in order to receive additional information regarding proper clothing, etc. Register here: https://anacostiaws.salsalabs.org/31420bmpplantingsaintgabriel/index.html?page=register BEFORE signing up on the website. For more information before the event, contact Emily Castelli at ecastelli2@anacostiaws.org or call 301-699-6204 x103. An hour of travel time is included each way.
