The opening night program includes a live music concert by by folk singers Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) and Bethany Yarrow, activists in social justice and environmental issues; a documentary film screening about five friends on horses, mountain bikes, and canoes exploring the environmental and human impacts of a border wall along the Texas Rio Grande; followed by a discussion and audience Q&A. The River and the Wall, which premiered at SXSW this year, follows five friends on an immersive adventure through the unknown wilds of the Texas borderlands as they travel 1200 miles from El Paso to the Gulf of Mexico. Setting out on horses, mountain bikes, and canoes, they document the borderlands and explore the potential impacts of a wall on the natural environment as they come face-to-face with the human side of the immigration debate in uncharted emotional waters.
