North Korean Refugees: Escape, Adjustments, and the Role of English

In this talk, Casey Lartigue, co-founder of Teaching North Korean Refugees Global Education Center (TNKR) will talk about the North Korean Refugess in South Korea: their escape stories, adjustments and challenges in their life in South Korea, and the role of English in their settlement process. Bio: Casey Lartigue is co-founder with South Korean researcher Eunkoo Lee of the Teach North Korean Refugees Global Education Center (TNKR) in Seoul. He is the 2017 winner of the “Special Contribution” Award presented by the Hansarang Rural Cultural Foundation and the 2018 winner of the Challenge Korea (Global) Award. In the USA, Lartigue was previously a policy analyst with the Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom in Washington, D.C., former host of “The Casey Lartigue Show” on XM Radio, and co-editor of the book "Educational Freedom in Urban America: Brown v. Board after Half a Century." Lartigue received a bachelor’s degree from the Harvard University Extension School and a master’s degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
