On February 26, 2019, IPPH will host The History and Politics of Black Face panel at 3pm in the Small Auditorium, Rm (A03) Building #44. Featured speakers include the much-regarded Dr. Dwandalyn Reece, Curator of Music and Performing Arts at the Smithsonian Institution of African American History Moderator is Mary Ann French, former Washington Post reporter whose doctoral focus examines slave families in Virginia. The panelists will delve into the history of Black Face, its origins, as well as the contemporary political import of “dehumanizing” symbols.
