Art Looting: The Challenge of Holocaust Restitution |
| Date: Nov 14, 2018 at 11:30am to 12:30pm | |
Speaker: Marc J. Masurovsky, co-founder of the Holocaust Art Restitution Project (HARP)
Since the 1990s, there has been renewed interest and advocacy to document how, between 1933 and 1945, Jews and other groups persecuted by the Nazis were dispossessed of their assets, especially cultural and artistic objects. The challenge since then has been to find ways of doing justice to the victims of plunder and their families in a complex legal and ethical environment, oftentimes pitting museums, auction houses, and governments against Jewish victims, their families and their advocates. Where are we now?
