IlluminAsia: A Festival of Asian Art, Food, and Cultures - General Volunteer AFTERNOON SHIFT

Date: Oct 15, 2017 at 12:00pm to 6:12pm
IlluminAsia: A Festival of Asian Art, Food, and Cultures – the grand reopening celebration of Asian art, food and cultures! Free and open to the public, the IlluminAsia festival will transform the museums’ grounds with an Asian food market stretching onto the National Mall, interactive cooking and art demonstrations, live performances by members of the 2017 Grammy award-winning Silk Road Ensemble and other music acts, and many local and international artists. Inside, visitors can experience the reimagined galleries and four new temporary exhibitions, as well as performances, conversations, and other immersive activities. On Saturday night, there will also be the premiere of a specially commissioned video projection by Tony award-winners 59 Productions, on the mall façade of the Freer Gallery of Art. This weekend celebration will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 5pm – 12am and Sunday, October 15 from 11am – 5pm. We need assistance with many different activities including hands-on art projects, artist demonstrations, storytelling, pop-up performances, and information/wayfinding. General Volunteers fill open volunteer positions and provide general assistance whenever and wherever needed. Prepare to spend time outside. Language proficiency in Korean, Arabic, Pashto, Tuvan/Russian, Farsi, Thai, Japanese, and Mandarin is helpful to assist visitor and participant communication.
