Opened as a small soup kitchen in 1970, SOME now provides 1,000 nourishing, hot breakfasts and lunches every day with help from nearly 10,000 volunteers a year, including our Provide-A-Meal groups. During this shift individuals and groups will help plate and pass out meals, refill drinks, run the dishwasher, and clean while serving guests in SOME's Dining Room for the homeless and poor located at 71 'O' Street, NW. Returning volunteers should be signed in and ready to work at 10:30 am, so plan to arrive a little before then. If you have never served before, or your group is more than 5 volunteers, please arrive by 10 am for sign-in and orientation. All volunteers are expected to stay until 1:15 pm to help clean and reset the dining room after the last plate is served at 1 pm.
