Rights for Returning Citizens

Date: Feb 21, 2012 at 2:30pm to 6:30pm
THIS PROJECT NOW INCLUDES TRAVEL TIME GOING TO AND COMING FROM THE PROJECT!! It should take about a half hour to get there and come back. Rights for Returning Citizens is a recently initiated project that combats the various obstacles that citizens released from prison face upon reentry into society. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15-3:15 and then again from 3:30-5:30, the first part of the Rights for Returning Citizens project will be taking place at Shad Elementary School in South East DC hosting computer classes to teach released citizens basic computer skills in order to aid them in getting jobs. Volunteers will act as Teaching Assistant in these classes. You will be mainly offering individual help to support the the teacher that is already there. You will by no means be asked to instruct a class! You will most likely be helping with very basic computer skills like how to turn the computer on or how to pull up programs off of the "Start" menu or log onto the internet. Keep in mind that some of the people you will be working with most likely have never used a computer before, so your assistance will really be helping them out! Please note, the elementary school is A QUARTER MILE WEST OF THE CAPITOL Heights Metro Stop off of the Blue Line!!
