Volunteers MUST apply (link found here: https://nationalzoo.si.edu/support/volunteer/special-event-boo-zoo) and be accepted by the Zoo to volunteer BEFORE signing up on the APO website. The given description says the shift runs until 8:30, but the application description says 9:15, so bet on that to be safe. Volunteer roles include helping the registration team, passing out treats, managing crowds, and assisting the event team. Volunteer roles will be assigned at check-in. Volunteers should be comfortable with a hilly and possibly lengthy walk to their assigned station. Volunteers must be comfortable being outside for the duration of the event. Volunteers must check in and be at their assigned location by 5:00 p.m. and are expected to stay through the conclusion of the event at 8:30 p.m. Please plan to check in at the Visitor Center at the top part of the Zoo by 4:30 p.m., so that you will have time to collect your dinner and get to your assigned station. The event is open to guests from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers should check in and be at their assigned location by 5:00 p.m.
