[APO does not take any political position.]
The Citizen’s United v FEC case has fundamentally changed our political system. Since this case created an opportunity for corporations to advertise without identifying a sponsor, most Americans are unaware of who is influencing their voting. The amount of money that is donated to political campaigns without an identifiable source has also risen drastically as a result.
The Roosevelt Institute is hosting an event in the Butler Board Room in which they offer an alternative solution to this issue other than simply overturning the case--which can give the FEC the power to regulate any mention of political candidates in the election--and put out a petition to support this solution.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it (get the Mission Impossible reference?) is simply to attend the event.
You are welcome to sign the petition if you choose to, but the project itself is just to attend the event and gain more knowledge of this pressing situation. | |
