Community Walk with the Elderly!! |
| Date: Oct 17, 2015 at 12:00pm to 6:00pm | |
We Are Family Community Walk is looking to bridge the gap between seniors and young people in the community.
We will begin the small park at 14th & Oak next to Hubbard Place at 1pm with free music from Luci Murphy, food, banners, t-shirts and a hand out on the history of each building and on the neighborhood itself, with photos featuring of some of our seniors.
We will walk from there to Kelsey from 2-3pm, with a banner out front and more free food, music from Lilo Gonzales and Chords Of Glory, and conversation, then to Victory Heights from 3-4pm, with food and music from the Rockin' Grannies.
We will be concluding the walk at NCBA Estates with a joint celebration with Columbia Heights Village, and Mary McBride and her band performing.
Music, food, information and time for conversation/making new friends will be provided at each stop, with support from various community sponsors. The exact program for each stop is being worked out with senior representatives and management at each building.
The overall aim is to broaden the connections in the community and learning about and value the community history.
This service project is more about connecting with people and less about setting up and tearing down things- you will be participating in the walk and talking to the people involved! This service project focuses on community engagement. | |
