SYSD-Freedom School @ DC General

Date: Apr 15, 2015 at 4:00pm to 7:30pm
The National Center for Children and Families operates a Freedom School after-school enrichment program and summer camp inside the DC General Family Shelter in Southeast DC. NCCF's mission is to assist the community in caring for its most vulnerable members--that's why we have taken our mission to DC General, a former hospital that’s situated between a jail and a morgue. The Freedom School is a glimmer of hope and happiness in an unexpected place. The program is designed to help children fall in love with reading, increase their self-esteem, and generate more positive attitudes towards learning. NCCF employs the CDF Freedom Schools curriculum that supports children and families around five essential components: high quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; intergenerational leadership development; and nutrition, health and mental health. This project fulfills your SYSD requirement. Travel time is included.
