Democracy Dialogues: A Conversation with Ayesha Rascoe

Date: Mar 5, 2024 at 4:00pm to 5:00pm
Event is free and open to the public. Join us in person at the Lory Student Center theatre or catch the livestream at col.st/fsEoY. Ayesha Rascoe is the host of Weekend Edition Sunday and the Saturday episodes of Up First. As host of the morning news magazine, she interviews news makers, entertainers, politicians and more about the stories that everyone is talking about or that everyone should be talking about. Prior to her role as host, Rascoe was a White House Correspondent. She covered three presidential administrations, gaining a reputation for her sharp questioning in the White House briefing room. Rascoe's reporting included a number of high profile foreign trips, including President Trump's 2019 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, Vietnam, and President Obama's final NATO summit in Warsaw, Poland in 2016. As a part of the White House team, she was also a regular on the NPR Politics Podcast. Rascoe's talk will discuss the threat to democracy around the world. Globally over the past few decades, there has been an increase in the number of countries electing autocratic leaders. Freedom of the press and civil liberties are being eroded in many places around the world, including some that were once bastions of democracy. Fear, outrage, and misinformation are often taking the place of reasoned debate. Where does this leave us and what will be the future of democracy?
