Bullitt Lecture in Astronomy

Join us for UofL's biggest yearly event in astronomy! The 2022 Bullitt Lecture will be on October 20th at 7PM in Rauch Planetarium, featuring guest Professor Karan Jani from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Jani will give a talk on black holes titled, "Listening to the Dark Universe." This event will feature exclusive merch sold by the Society of Physics Students and the presentation of the Bullitt Scholar in Astronomy and Best Paper in Astronomy awards in addition to the lecture itself. Dr. Jani is an astrophysicist working on black holes, gravitational waves, and testing Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. He is part of the LIGO team which led to the first observation of gravitational waves from binary black hole merger. The Forbes magazine listed Karan in their coveted “30 under 30 all-star” list and Vice-Motherboard featured him in their list of “105 Interdisciplinary Thinkers in the World”. His research has been profiled by the BBC, New York Times, Forbes, and CNN among other international news media. He is a recipient of “Postdoc of The Year” by Vanderbilt University and shared the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the discovery of gravitational waves. A prominent advocate of science communication, Karan has given invited talks at the Official TED Conference, the Forbes Summit, and on several US-India platforms. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, invited Jani to discuss the greater role of expanding his research in India.
