Fill out the form (below) to participate in one of the many community service opportunities going on that day. The form closes 3/10/2020. You will get specific details regarding your assignment when you sign up. Fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc4-Lk4YrxzbAjA9N0WdrGc6D7dV7kNNlVBBHwAI-ppcYcfPw/viewform Select "other" for affiliation if you were not originally part of an alt-break group. This is what their email said: You are receiving this email because you have expressed interest in Community Outreach in the past. As many of you know, Alternative Breaks are service-learning experiences that aim to heighten participants’ awareness on critical social issues and encourage them to engage in lifelong social action. Many participants on Alternative Breaks are just beginning their service journey and learning about communities other than their own with the goal to become active within their own communities. Due to the University’s restrictions on travel this upcoming spring break, many Alternative Break programs scheduled to depart next week will no longer be running. This includes Community Outreach Alternative Breaks, Honors Across State Borders (HASB), UConn’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter, etc. This leaves 100+ participants who committed to a week of service unable to participate in these experiences. Although this is disappointing for many participants, Student Leaders, and staff, the spirit of Alternative breaks lies within its passion for service. Because of this, we ask for your support in an “Alternative” Alternative Break event that our CO Trip Directors are currently planning for this Saturday, March 14th. During this day of service, we will be partnering with local community partners around the Mansfield area, that cover similar social topics that would be seen on these Alternative Break trips. We are looking to work with organizations like Joshua’s Trust, WAIM Loading Dock, GROW Windham, etc. some of which you may already be familiar with. Also, we are looking into other indirect forms of service and advocacy like creating safe sex kits and making voter registration plans. We hope that this will allow participants to see that there are many ways to be active here on campus! We sincerely hope that you can try to attend this event and/or encourage your friends to attend.
