College Ave Food Scrap - Turning the Compost

Date: May 5, 2019 at 11:00am to 12:00pm
After the collection of food scraps, the RU Compost needs us to help with turning the bins! Location: Cook/Douglass Campus by the Ecology Building. Place this link in your phones https://goo.gl/maps/hqK7ZXq7S9F2 for a more accurate location. Timing: The RU Compost will be traveling from CA to Douglass to turn the bins so expect their arrival to be between 11:00 to 11:15 am Make sure to email: djl263@scarletmail.rutgers.edu if you will be attending this event to help out RU Compost Here are some tips that they want to keep aware of but no don't worry they will remind you at the site what to do! Add food scraps to the RIGHT-MOST BIN and COVER WITH WOODCHIPS (found to the right of the bins) Remove all stickers from produce peels before putting them in the compost (choose produce without stickers if you can!) If putting tea bags in the bins, remove the staples from the bags and the plastic lined paper tag if your tea bags have strings (try buying loose leaf or stringless bags instead!) Chop up all uneaten produce into smaller pieces so they can decompose easily (try to finish all your fruits and veggies in the first place) No avocado pits or other large seeds Egg shells and peels are good, just please crush or rip up into smaller pieces (the shovel can be used to stab your food scraps to break it up) Not too many citric fruit peels! high acidity levels will not make our piles efficient and worms don't like it Please no trash or other miscellaneous items like Keurig cups (although some items may same "compostable", they can only be composted in commercial facilities Again, please remember to email djl263@scarletmail.rutgers.edu! Thank you
