Earth Month Volunteer Event for the Greener Good

Date: Apr 27, 2019 at 9:00am to 12:00pm
Located along the South Fork of Peachtree Creek, this space historically was an industrial site that manufactured insulation that contained asbestos. With leadership from the South Fork Conservancy, local businesses, and DeKalb County, the site was reported to the EPA and cleaned up in 2010. Zonolite Park now boasts an active Friends of the Park group that care for the trails, community garden and extensive native plant gardens. During this volunteer event, volunteer efforts will focus on: clearing noxious cattails from the small retention pond, and removing invasive privet, and preparing a section of the park to become a wildlife sanctuary in the future. All tools and gloves will be provided. If you have tall rain boots or waders, please bring them along! Some lucky folks will get into the pond to pull out the cattails… the most fun task of all the planned projects!
