Moral Courage in the Americas: Ferguson and Ayotzinapa

Date: Sep 28, 2016 at 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Join the UD Human Rights Center's Moral Courage Project as we explore the power of testimony as a tool for understanding traumatic experiences and complex events. This past May, a team of UD students collected testimonies from a diverse group of people who experienced the unrest in Ferguson, MO, following the killing of Michael Brown in 2014. Around the same time, 43 students at the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers College were abducted and killed in Iguala, MX. How can we, as outsiders, comprehend the lives of those closely involved? How do we draw linkages between the social movements that emerged in the United States and Mexico? How are these struggles related? This event will begin with framing comments from UD Human Rights Center Executive Dir. Camilo Perez-Bustillo and Dr. Joel R. Pruce, but will focus on the work of our student team who will teach us about the individuals they interviewed in Ferguson.
