UD Speaker Series: Sister Helen Prejean

Date: Feb 26, 2015 at 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Internationally known death penalty activist and the author of Dead Man Walking Sister Helen Prejean, C.S.J. will be visiting UD's campus next week. Prejean has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue on the death penalty and shaping the Catholic Church's opposition to state executions. As a result of her experience counseling a death row inmate and witnessing his execution, she wrote Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States. The book became an Academy Award nominated movie, an opera and a play for high schools and colleges. The Dayton Opera will stage two performances of the opera next week. Prejean's talk will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, in UD RecPlex. The address is part of the campuswide "Rites. Rights. Writes." initiative. Next week's address promises to be an enlightening and challenging event. We hope you will join us. A book signing will immediately follow.
