Workshop to Stop Police/Immigration Collaboration

Date: Apr 22, 2021 at 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Hosted by Community Voices for Immigrant Rights and Migrant Justice Thursday, April 22, 2021, 6:00 – 7:30 pm Under Vermont’s current Fair and Impartial Policing Policy (FIPP), the police can share undocumented immigrant’s status with immigration authorities. This puts immigrants in jeopardy of deportation when they interact with the police. But many Vermont towns and cities have strengthened their local policies to bar collaboration between the police and immigration authorities. Yours can, too. In this webinar, Migrant Justice and other speakers will: explain the problems with the state FIPP, refute the common counter-arguments against strengthening your local FIPP, and lay out how to set up a No Más Polimigra campaign in your town. Activists from cities and towns across the state will also share lessons from their successful campaigns. Other speakers who are in the midst of organizing will report on what’s working and the challenges they are facing. The goal of the webinar is to help activists connect with each other and launch new campaigns in towns and cities to stop collaboration between the police and immigration authorities. New local Fair and Impartial Policing Policies can do it! You’ll hear from Burlington, South Burlington, Richmond, Shelburne, and more rural parts of the state. Connect with activists in your town and launch your campaign this spring! You’ll learn exactly what makes a campaign successful. It’s you, and people like you.
