While Biden has repealed the worst of the previous administration’s executive orders, his heralded immigration bill is compromised by onerous conditions for legalization, continued criminalization of migration, and increased border securitization with a proposed new high-tech virtual border wall. Even with those provisions, that bill is unlikely to pass given Republican and Democratic Party opposition. Meanwhile, Biden has continued to oversee the border regime’s ongoing oppression of migrants. His administration has deported over 26,000 people, and arrested and jailed children who have crossed the border in detention facilities. It is time for the immigrant movement to redouble our struggle for migrant justice. We demand that the Biden administration, Vermont’s congressional delegation, and our state and local elected representatives advocate that the federal, state, and local government: Stop all deportations immediately! Free them all! Stop the High Tech Border Wall! Defund and Abolish the Border Patrol, ICE, and the Police and Dismantle DHS. Create a Just and Safe Economy for All Workers.
