Disability and Invisible: the last frontier of exclusion
Over the last 10 years, Dr Ossie Stuart has spoken to many hundreds of disabled employees about the experience working in higher education.
By recounting their experiences at work and, also, in their personal lives, Dr Stuart will explore invisible disability and how this has shaped the view of disability held by non-disabled and disabled people, alike. The aim is to place a spotlight on an issue that is not often talked about and certainly rarely understood.
We tend to think of disability as being something very tangible and life-changing when, in fact, this type of experience is very rare. The vast majority of those in our society we describe as 'disabled people' rarely meet our expectations of what a disabled person should look like. This tells us nothing about them but a lot about how we, as a society, think about disability and treat disabled people. As a consequence, being disabled and invisible is indeed 'the last frontier' of exclusion.
LSBU invites you to join us and to be part of this overdue conversation with Dr Stuart. There will be an opportunity for Q&A and we're keen to hear your thoughts & experiences... This is a learning opportunity for us all and everyone is welcome to attend.
This event will be delivered via Zoom and you'll receive the joining link a few days before the event.
Send a reflection before midnight to the group chat that will be made. What did you learn? What can you apply to your life? | |
