"We need about 6 volunteers to take part in our water safety crew on Mohonk Lake. It involves the ability to paddle a recreational kayak to guide the athletes along the half-mile swim. Athletes are allowed to hold on to a kayak to rest as long as the kayak remains stationary but for the most part, the kayaks spread out along the swim course to act as course markers and a pair of eyes in case an athlete needs a rest (typically, none do.) Water safety volunteers do NOT need lifeguard, CPR, or first-aid certificates as there are others on-site to provide this if needed. To gain entrance to the lake, the water safety crew will have their name on a list at the Mohonk Mountain gatehouse. They will park in one of the Mountain House lots and walk up to the lake where they will meet Laura Finestone who is the lake coordinator. She will give details and arrange rest breaks."
