Elect Her

Date: Jan 25, 2020 at 9:00am to 1:00pm
(From invitation email) I would like to invite female-identifying members of APO to participate in the newest Women in Leadership Initiative – Elect Her, which will take place on January 25th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in Hilary’s. This is a one-day nonpartisan, nationwide leadership training for female-identifying students on how to run for student government and political office. Women make up half of the population, but less than one in four elected leaders are women. When women run, they win at the same rates as men – the problem is that there aren’t enough women running. Research shows that engaging women in politics in high school and college is key to increasing the number of women in office. During this event, participants will discover their personal brand, examine issues they care about, meet an elected female official in their community, network with other student leaders on campus, discuss the importance of women running for office, learn how to effectively run a campaign, and so much more. Not only will this experience help prepare students to run for student or political office, but it will also equip them with tools that will benefit them throughout their professional careers, wherever their paths may lead them.
