Alain Locke and Philosophy of Race

Date: Mar 2, 2020 at 1:15pm to Apr 2, 2020 at 2:30pm
Alain Locke (1885-1954) was the first African American to receive a Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard, the first African American Rhodes Scholar, and the architect behind the Harlem Renaissance (a.k.a., the New Negro Movement). In this talk, philosopher Dr. Lee McBride III (College of Wooster) will articulate the basic contours of Locke’s nuanced conception of race, marking some of the benefits of holding a Lockean view. Co-sponsored by the Philosophy Department and the Williams Honors College. Take a picture or send a paragraph so I know you went!
