Goalball Tournament Help |
| Date: Oct 1, 2016 at 7:30am to 7:30pm | |
Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes is hosting the first Goalball tournament at GMU! Goalball is one of the only sports fully adapted specifically for athletes with visual impairments. It is played on a hardwood basketball court and is similar to soccer, but instead of kicking the ball, players must roll the ball while blind folded. They need our help to ensure the event runs smoothly! If interested please sign up using the link below.

The volunteer jobs would be to help with time-keeping, score-keeping, line judging, food distribution, transportation, and some miscellaneous responsibilities. Here is a short summary of what is asked of each volunteer for each task:
1. Time-keeping: Manage the "10 Second Penalty" rule. During Goalball, when a player blocks the ball, that team has ten seconds to roll the ball back passed the half court line.
2. Score-keeping: Manage the scoreboard and apply the goal to the right team after a goal is scored and manage the game clock.
3. Line Judging: On each corner of the court, there must be a volunteer that will retrieve the ball if it goes out of bounds or is scored through the goal. They are also responsible for determining if the ball thrown crossed the goal line.
Food Distribution: Take care of distributing food and drinks and all other necessary requests during lunch and dinner.
Transportation: Help out with getting guests and athletes around throughout the campus.
