Our beloved Rush chairs, Brittany Buurman and Ryanne Haga have been hard at work, as well as my lovely co-officer Emma Scott who sacrificed many hours of sleep last night for APO. We've had so much fun at the frozen yogurt social (thanks, Naticakes!), first information meeting, and service project event. This semester, active brothers accompanied rushees to three different organizations in Lexington to give them a real taste of what our chapter, Alpha Zeta, is all about. If you are interested in joining and you are reading this on or before Thursday, February 3rd, please come to our next rush events! If it's later than that, shoot an e-mail to ukalphaphiomega@uky.edu to get on our Fall 2011 rush list. Here is the event page, including the following schedule:
Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Asri Mumpuni on February 2, 2011 at 9:14pm Brotherhood- From Daniel Baker I have struggled for a while now with trying to figure out how I can best convey my ideas of
Brotherhood to you. The easy way out is for me to get up in
front of you at a meeting, share my definition of the concept, and ask
for you to share yours as well. My problem with this is simple: I care
too much about all of you, our Fraternity, and
the idea of Brotherhood to take the easy way out.
Instead, I want to share my understanding of Brotherhood in a
different way. Today, I would like for you to access the information
provided by our Zeta Theta Brothers at Drexel University: http://www.dusers.drexel.edu/~aphio/?page_id=401
This is a great description of what a Brother is. In summary, Zeta
Theta Brothers believe we are a Brotherhood because are united under
the guiding principle of Service - the desire to help others and to
improve our communities.
To expand on this, I want each of you to consider Alpha Zeta Chapter as a whole. We are a remarkable group of individuals and it is amazing to see how each and every one of us, though we lead extremely busy lives, still
take time to support each other and make our Fraternity the best that it can be.
We are not perfect by any means, but we are exceptional in the fact
that we strive for success, we strive to make our world a better place,
and we strive to help those
in need - both amongst ourselves and beyond our Brotherhood into our
communities.
Please, ask yourselves these questions and reflect on your role in our Fraternity:
1. What is my idea of Brotherhood?
2. Do I provide my time unselfishly to my Brothers in need?
3. Have my Brothers been there for me when I needed them?
4. How can I improve myself and my place in the Brotherhood?
5. Am I working to achieve the goals of the Fraternity?
6. Am I proud of this Fraternity, it's efforts, and the goals we are trying to reach?
You do not have to respond to this email with answers to these
questions. Rather, personally consider each of them and determine where
you are in this idea of Brotherhood.
Brotherhood is so much more than mere membership in our Fraternity. Alpha Phi Omega is more than just a service organization. Alpha Phi Omega is a way of life.
I will do my best to send more information, examples and
definitions from other chapters, and other tidbits as the semester
progresses.
Until next time, challenge yourself: Provide Leadership to
those who need to be led, provide Friendship to those who need a friend,
and provide Service to those who need a little extra help in life.

Yours in Leadership, Friendship, and Service, Asri Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Asri Mumpuni on September 4, 2010 at 11:04pm International Book Project Alpha Zeta hosted the Section 67 Conference this past weekend,
creating an awesome opportunity to do service with brothers from other
chapters. I teamed up with some brothers from NKU, EKU, and Centre, and
headed over to the International Book Project. The IBP is an amazing
nonprofit that collects books and ships them to communities in less
developed countries, where books are a scarce resource. Who loves
promoting international literacy? APO loves promoting international
literacy! After watching a short documentary on the founding and
mission of the IBP (which, by the way, was started in the basement of
one very cool lady), we did some crazy cool service. We helped the IBP
promote an event it's co-sponsoring, a talk hosted by former Indian
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, by stuffing some pretty snazzy looking
invitations and addressing them. The work was fun and allowed us to
mingle and get to know our brothers from out of town. Afterwards, we
browsed the IBP's bookstore, which is full of great titles.
I definitely reccommend volunteering at the International Book
Project! Their mission is amazing, the people are wonderful, and the
work is rewarding! Plus, they've got some really awesome T-shirts for
sale!
-Jon Finnie Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Charlie Mounts on February 24, 2010 at 4:19pm Lighthouse Ministries Service Lighthouse ministries, this was an amazing Service event!!! But there are a few things that should be considered when volunteering for this organization. It is a very, very religious facility. Before serving dinner, you will pray and then listen to christian music and in addition to that listen to a guy preach about how he got saved by god. BUT in my opinion it wasn't a bad thing. The homeless that were there appreciated him in every way. It was amazing to see how hopeful some of those sitting there looked, just after they walked in having impressions on their faces that were so full of hopelessness. If you are truly against religion and really don't want to deal with religion at all, then you should keep your hands off this project. Otherwise if you really want to see how little things like serving dinner to a few homeless people can change their life and turn it around in many ways, then go for it! This is your thing to do!!! ~Patty Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Charlie Mounts on October 30, 2009 at 12:48am Happy Egg Fundraiser
The happy egg fundraiser was quite a success, somewhat at least. It is
important to choose the right neighborhood and the right time of the
day/week. Sundays might not be the best day since many people aren't
home. That's the major problem we ran into. Most people weren't
available. But I believe that trying it again with a different
neighborhood, further away from campus and maybe on a Saturday would
raise our chances by far. What is the happy egg fundraiser? First you go to a house and ask for an egg donation. Then, if you get one you decorate it with a sharpie. But a smiley face on it or something funny. Then go to the next house and ask for a donation in exchange for the egg. And so on and on. The MOST FUNdraiser ever! ~Patty Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Charlie Mounts on October 20, 2009 at 4:52pm Pledge Retreat! Pledge retreat was so fun this semester. Thanks to all those who made it possible!!! Loved the new games and the low ropes activities, those are my favorite team building activities! We have a great group of pledges this year too!!! Love you all! ~Amy Alpha Zeta Chapter Blog - Posted by Amy Herberg on October 13, 2009 at 3:42pm AZ Rush 2009 AZ is ready for Rush 2009! The brothers of UK's chapter have put
